The Fold
Welcome to The Fold — my journal, and the journal of Tellie Collaborative.
This is where ideas unfold, layer by layer.
Rooted in the transformative power of visual arts, education, and research, The Fold is my space for reflective thought, creative inquiry, and to explore what I’m up to.
Like the origami bird in the Tellie Collaborative logo, every insight begins with a single fold — and reveals something deeper when we take the time to open it.
January House Literary Journal and Creating this School Year
This post is about my artworks, "Red Plateau" and "Peter and Me," being accepted into January House's Literary Magazine, encouraging artists, poets, and educators to submit to their journal. I offer my thoughts on how teachers can create artwork and engage with creative projects alongside students this year, aiming not only to increase productivity but to give students a firsthand view of their teachers' creative and artistic process. This will help them understand what it's like to work alongside their teachers, fostering a trusting community of work and study.
Essay Book Review, Affect in Artistic Creativity: Painting to Feel
In my recently published essay book review in Journal of Curriculum Theorizing, I explore Jussi A. Saarinen’s Affect in Artistic Creativity: Painting to Feel—a powerful interdisciplinary text that bridges psychology, philosophy, and painting. Saarinen's insights into emotion and artistic process offer essential reflections for educators and curriculum designers navigating complex, affect-laden subjects like racial justice, identity, and mental health. This book is a vital read for anyone invested in emotionally attuned teaching and creative curriculum work.
